Home Walking School Bus

Sherwood Primary School...

Hi everyone,

My name is Alison Carswell and I am the parent coordinator for the Walking School Bus.

On the next page is a map showing all of the routes that we have had approved by the council.  Unfortunately because of the lack of volunteers, not all the routes are operating at the moment.

It would be fantastic if we could gather together enough volunteers to kick start the other routes again.  So what’s involved?

For the kids ……

  • Being ready to leave on time, both in the morning and afternoon.
  • Demonstrating good behaviour at all times, especially when crossing roads.
  • Ensuring their bus ticket gets marked off for every trip they make. (40 trips = 50 house points!)
  • Getting some exercise and preparing their bodies for the day.
  • Having fun and making friends from different classes in the school.

For the adults ……

  • Being prepared to regularly walk one or two mornings or afternoons a week with up to 8 children per adult - remember those remaining three or four mornings or afternoons are then yours free!
  • Getting outside and doing some exercise.
  • Meeting up with other parents from your area.
  • Getting to know a variety of the fantastic kids that go to our school.

Obviously there are going to be families where there just isn’t anybody in a position to help.  That doesn’t mean that your child isn’t welcome to join us.  If you live a bit further away, consider dropping your child (or parking your car and helping) on one of the routes.

If you would like any further information or are willing to put up your hand to help I would love to hear from you.  Give me a call on 479 1384.

Regards

Alison Carswell

Children at Sherwood School aim to be Reflective

They give thoughtful consideration to their own learning and experience. They are able to assess and understand their strengths and limitations in order to support their learning and personal development.
