About Sherwood Primary School
Sherwood Primary School in Browns Bay is a medium-sized school sharing a boundary with an intermediate school.
The school has a history of very positive ERO reports.The 2005 ERO report found:
The school mission is to be a child-centred learning community. Teachers strive to implement a teaching model based on providing children with access to education in their preferred learning style. Children are confident and articulate and report that they have a strong sense of belonging and well-being. Relationships are courteous and friendly. Children comply with agreed expectations of behaviour and are cooperative and focused on their work. This positive environment enables teachers and children to focus on teaching and learning.
Teachers ensure that classrooms are pleasant and stimulating. Classroom displays value children’s work and support their learning. Variable spaces allow some movement of children between teaching areas when teachers regroup children in paired classes for some lessons. An attractive new library, designed with input from children, is close to completion. The school has a strong focus on the use of ICT to support children’s learning and currently has classes that have a very high ratio of computers to pupils.
